Nov 22nd 2012 - Thanksgiving Evening Hunt

Well it was nice to have Thanksgiving at my moms new house, just wished dad had lived to see it. Dad loved it when his entire family was together. He also loved to hunt so I made myself get off the couch and get back out here. Brock decided since it was Brysons turn to "Be on the Buck" he would go to deer camp with Kevin and Jeff. The Atchley's traveled to Commerce for Thanksgiving so Bryson and I have the place to ourselves.

This evening was 60 degrees with a slight wind. Our little blind fits 3 good, but it is perfect for 2 hunters. Bryson made his nest in one corner and I in the other. We arrive about 4:30 and the waiting began. ...   ...   ...   ... and the waiting never stopped!

We were exiting the blind just before complete dark and 7 doe decide to come by. It was too dark to make out the button bucks so I didn't let Bryson bring down the thunder. When these gals finally left the area we climbed down and went to get the SD card form the camera. As I turned to leave the feeder area, I notice a dark figure standing in the meadow about 100 yards away. I put up my binos and it is Tall6 looking at us. I told Bryson to be still and that there was a deer heading toward us. He said "GIVE ME A GUN!!!" I hushed him and told him that was not happening because we cant tell which deer it is exactly. He was not happy about that!

Tall6 walked up to us like a dog would. He caught wind about 30 yards and bolted back into the meadow. We begin walking out and we have that feeling something is watching you. I look over in the meadow and Tall6 is walking with us about 30 yards parallel to us. He continued this for about 300 yards until we turned to the truck.

Maybe he had never seen a human before and was just curious. What ever it was the made him do that, hope he learns to be afraid of humans. He will not survive long enough to become a shooter if he keeps escorting people to their trucks.

We were SKUNKED on Thanksgiving Day, but it all good...
